St. Augustine Alligator Farm in the Winter

Wednesday found me in St. Augustine so I dropped in to the rookery at the Alligator Farm.  No signs of any nesting behavior but there were some interesting birds about.  They were both black-crowned and yellow-crowned night herons (both asleep), a active green heron and a very active white ibis.  I saw one snowy and one great egret and some sleeping roseate spoonbills.

I did get some photos

I’m showing here the white ibis probing for crayfish.  I don’t know the age of this bird but I think it is an adult.
The young ibis cannot tolerate food from saltwater so the parents will feed them from freshwater until they are old enough for saltwater-sourced food.
The second photo shows the results.
