The ospreys in our front yard have not fared well for the past two years. In both they failed to bring even one chick to fledgling status. In one case, weather was the cause. In the other, we just do not know.
This year they are doing better. So far, three chicks have reached fair size. Food has been plentiful and all three seem healthy. You can tell from the photos they are not fighting for food. I think that indicates they are not extremely hungry and are being well fed.
The orientation of the nest has resulted in few photo opportunities. The nest angles away from our house so that on many occasions we see no chicks at all. This morning three were clearly visible and I took advantage to get a couple of shots. The first photo shows the natural size of the without cropping. The second is cropped to enlarge the visibility of the chicks. We have never had them bring more than one chick to maturity. Maybe this is the year.
Fantastic! Thanks for the documentary, too.
